“Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight” – Psalm 119:32
I use a navigation system or GPS when I drive and it tells me the path I should go and when to turn left or right and warns me of any accidents ahead. Sometimes I don’t listen to the GPS and try to go on my own path and in a calm voice it says,
“Recalculating … recalculating.”
Then it recalculates a new route which usually takes longer than the one it originally had calculated, if I only followed the commands. If the GPS was a person it probably be yelling at me saying,
“Listen to me! Follow my directions, you are going the wrong way!”
Instead the GPS is patient with me and it gives me a new route to follow. The GPS is like God guiding our lives. God tells us to follow Him but when we don’t, he has mercy on our lives. He is patient with us and forgives and gives us a new route to follow.
When we learn to trust and obey God’s commands for our life the outcome is better than we expect. Though it may be difficult for it is hard to let go of our own goals and dreams, God has something better planned for us.
When we veer off from Gods commands, things usually don’t work out the way we imagined and we find ourselves following our own paths that may lead to our destruction.
“The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.” – Proverbs 11:6 (NIV)
It isn’t in God’s plan for us to stay off course but it is our own selfish or evil desires that lead us away from Him. He ultimately wants the best for us but we just need to follow His plans.
God’s commandments are not mere suggestions but demands for us. If we walk His path and obey His commands, it will lead to peace, joy and delight. Sometimes the walk may be difficult but have faith that God will help you through.
Find joy in knowing that the promise is near and we just have to persevere in His ways.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Guide my steps and show me the path you want me to follow. Give me wisdom to know your will versus mine. Lord strengthen me, so I can stay away from my evil desires.
In Jesus mighty name,
